UBD students, graduates visit cemeteries

A total of 12 students and graduates of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) following the Sastera Rakyat Module (4308) recently visited the Residency Road and Dagang Muslim Cemeteries as one of their module tasks.

Leading the visit was the Lecturer of the module Dr Maslin bin Haji Jukim.

The programme is offered in the Malay Literature, Malay Language, Linguistics and Literature Programme under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UBD.

During the visit, four tombs and one grave were chosen comprising of Sultan Haji Muhammad Ali Tomb (Marhum Tumbang Dirumput), Rokayah binti Sultan Abdul Majid Tomb, tombs believed to be those of Pengiran Bendahara Sakam and Pengiran Shahbandar Pengiran Mohd Salleh, as well as the grave of Pahlawan Liau Badar.

In relation to the visit, the Assistant History Officer Haji Mohd Noor Irwan bin Haji Osmar and the Historical Research Assistant Helmi bin Haji Adi in their capacity as representatives of the Brunei History Centre accompanied the students and gave a number of explanations on the tombs’ histories.

This off-campus learning session will resume next February.
