UBD SBE to host 2nd International Conference on Business, Economics and Finance from July 31-August 1

FOLLOWING the successful hosting of the 1st International Conference on Business, Economics and Finance (ICBEF) in 2017, Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s School of Business and Economics (UBD SBE) will host the 2nd ICBEF next month.

Themed ‘New Technologies, Dynamic Business Environment and Growth for Future’, the conference will take place from July 31 to August 1 at UBD, according to a UBD press release.

The keynote speaker, Chief Executive Officer of International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance, Malaysia Professor Dato Dr Azmi Omar, will present his paper titled ‘Banking Disrupted – Are Banks Prepared for Banking 4.0?’.

Professor Dato Dr Azmi will discuss the current banking landscape and analyses on how banks are coping with the challenges and opportunities brought by the digital disruption, as well as analyse the current banking model and evaluate whether banks are ready for Banking 4.0. He will also address issues on access to finance and financial inclusion.

Two guest speakers are also invited to share their scholarly views on the conference’s theme – Professor of Economics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Professor Euston Quah, and Professor of Economics from Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey Professor Mehmet Huseyin Bilgin.

Professor Quah will share his views on the topic ‘China’s Belt and Road Initiative: Cost-Benefit Analysis and Meeting Environmental Obligations’ while Professor Bilgin will talk about ‘Could Digitalisation Solve SMEs’ Financing Problem?’.

Set to feature over 50 presentations by speakers representing more than 15 organisations from 12 countries including the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Turkey, Australia, Japan, China, Nigeria and also from neighbouring countries Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, three parallel sessions will take place throughout the two-day event. Various issues will be covered at the sessions including Digital Transformation, Information Technology and Development, Creativity and Innovation, Human Resource Management and Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Banking and Finance, Islamic Economics and Finance, Growth and Equity, Marketing Management and Consumer Behaviour, Marketing and Tourism, and Strategic Business Issues.

A panel discussion where local and international experts will share their thoughts on ‘Moving towards Industry 4.0: Opportunities and Challenges’ will be one of the highlights of the conference. It will feature Professor of Economics at Washington and Lee University, US Professor Art Goldsmith.

The conference will also feature a poster competition where research students (Master and PhD level) will share their ideas which allows for intellectual discourse between participants and ICBEF attendees. This will also allow students to gain constructive feedback from the experts attending the conference.
