Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of the Republic of Singapore Teo Chee Hean visited Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) as part of his official visit to Brunei Darussalam for the 7th Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP) yesterday.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, UBD Vice-Chancellor Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, senior MoE officials and UBD’s senior management team welcomed Teo and his delegation at UBD’s Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS).
The delegation included Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu; Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkiflibi bin Masagos Mohamad; Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence Heng Chee How; Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Health Edwin Tong Chun Fai; High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Lim Hong Huai and senior government officers from Singapore.
The official visit began with a tour of the state-of-the art facilities at PAPRSB IHS, comprising five simulation rooms (Emergency Bay, Medical Surgical Bay, Operating Theatre Bay, Maternity Bad and Children Bay). The institute has an outstanding simulation team who has developed over 50 clinical scenario for knowledge development in motor skills and non-technical areas such as decision making, team dynamics of students in medicine, nursing, midwifes, pharmacy, paramedics and others
The delegation observed a session of the UBD Global Classroom on International Perspective of Environmental and Occupational Health Issues.
The UBD Vice-Chancellor briefed Teo and his delegation on the latest UBD developments, including collaboration with universities and institutions in Singapore.
Tokens of appreciation were also exchanged between Teo and Acting Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, and again between Teo and the UBD Vice-Chancellor.
The visit concluded with the viewing of an exhibition showcasing six selected start-up companies initiated by UBD students, namely Smart Coating Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd, PharmBru, Muappy, BruMEQ, Ambient Production and EcoLight.
