Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong said she was pleased with the growing close cooperation between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and China.
“I believe that with the deepening of the bilateral relations, UBD will have more cooperation with Chinese universities and enterprises and will make greater contribution to the relation between China and Brunei,” she said during a presentation of books to UBD’s Business Library yesterday.
A total of 307 books ranging from Chinese history, cultural studies and heritage, to literature, traditional medicine and business, were presented to UBD Vice Chancellor Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz.
The Chinese Ambassador said the donation is an effort to promote understanding between the two countries, in particular the younger generation.
The book donation also aligned with the close academic collaboration between UBD and higher education institutions in China.
UBD’s senior management team, principal officers, academics, students and embassy officials were also present.
Currently, UBD is partnered with 13 universities in China, including Zhejiang University, Peking University and Tsinghua University.
Under the Network of ASEAN-China Academic Institutes (NACAI), UBD is partnered with Fudan University for academic exchanges.
UBD also has a tripartite university-industry collaboration with Zhejiang University in China and Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd at Pulau Muara Besar in the Bachelor of Engineering programme (chemical and process engineering). To date, UBD has produced five cohorts of chemical and process engineers all of whom are now working for Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd.
Other areas of academic collaboration include research in catalysis studies with Xiamen University, Beijing University of Chemical Tecnology and South China University of Technology. In student exchanges, UBD’s Discovery Year students have undergone their Study Abroad Programme in Chinese universities since 2011. UBD has also hosted several Chinese universities students under its Global Discovery Programme.
