UBD, Pahaytc ink research collaboration

A signing ceremony for a licensing agreement between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Pahaytc Sdn Bhd was held at the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise), UBD.

The signing marked the second licensing agreement UBD has entered with industries. Signing on behalf of UBD was Director of the Office of Innovation and Enterprise Pengiran Dr Emeroylariffion bin Pengiran Haji Abas while Pahaytc Sdn Bhd was represented by its director Yong Teck Foo.

Manager of Pahaytc Sdn Bhd Anny Chieng and UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq [email protected] Lin Naing, as well as officers from UBD and Pahaytc Sdn Bhd were present.

The agreement is a culmination of years of research and collaboration between Pahaytc Sdn Bhd and researchers from UBD, which began in 2018 with the characterisation of the local aquilaria or ‘agarwood’, or commonly referred to as ‘gaharu’.

The research focusses on the different species of gaharu tea leaves and its benefits.

The signing represents a major milestone for the university as it pushes for more industry collaborations.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq emphasised that UBD has been working hard, and will continue to work hard with public and industry interests in mind.

He expressed confidence that active engagements with industries, government agencies, MSMEs and non-governmental organisations will help UBD to fulfill its vision of becoming a university of innovation and enterprise.

The Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) continuously promotes and encourages industry dialogues and tri-helix partnerships in different areas of collaboration including joint research, technology transfers and commercialisation ventures such as licensing of UBD’s research efforts and technologies.
