Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) organised an opening ceremony for Design Week 2021 (DW21) recently.
It was held online via Zoom with DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) Chief Executive Officer Javed Ahmad attending as guest of honour.
Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise at UBD Professor Dr Mohd Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing took part on behalf of UBD Vice-Chancellor.
Over 90 people were present during the Zoom session including assistant vice-chancellors, UBD deans, directors, speakers, presenters and DW21 panellists as well as creatives, design industry professionals and the public.
DW21 Executive Directors Dr Rui Oliveira Lopes and Haji Osman bin Haji Mohammad introduced and presented the Design Week Awards aimed to showcase excellence and innovation in design and acknowledge the role of design in every aspect of our lives.
The judging panel of internationally respected designers and selected national industry professionals reviewed submissions from a vast number of designers, creatives, and gencies in the Sultanate.
Dr Lopes announced the Jury’s Choice, honourable mentions, and shortlisted submissions in multiple categories, including architecture; communication design; digital design; fashion design; product design; spatial and interior design; civic/non-profit; and student. He also brought attendees on a virtual tour of the awards exhibition.
The exhibition is open to the public and can be viewed on the DW21 website.
DW21 talks began on September 16 and will continue until September 26. The sessions covers four themes for DW21 – sustainable design; creative/smart cities; cultural identity; and the future of design work.
