UBD hosts BSN second Governing Council meeting

UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) hosted the second Borneo Studies Network (BSN) Governing Council meeting on January 15 at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA) Building in its capacity as Secretariat of the Consortium.

The welcoming remarks were delivered by Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD as Chair of the BSN Governing Council Meeting.

This biennial Governing Council Meeting brings together the member universities from Sabah, Sarawak, Kalimantan and Brunei Darussalam to discuss research thrusts and collaboration, joint publications, student and staff mobility, and future multilateral cooperation or activities under the BSN platform.

In this second BSN Governing Council Meeting, five research thrusts were endorsed which included: Borneo Biodiversity, Borneo Cultural Heritage and Ethnic Groups, Borneo Sustainable Community Transformation, Borneo Renewal Material Science and Energy Research, and Borneo Economy and Banking.

BSN has held several activities including graduate student training workshops, conferences, student exchanges and the Scientific Committee Meeting.

A book publication will be launched at the International Tourism Conference and Exhibition held until today, which UBD in its capacity as Secretariat of the BSN is organizing.
