UBD geosciences programme receives AUN-QA certification

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) has reached another milestone on its path to becoming a world-leading institution. The geosciences programme of the Faculty of Science (FOS) has become the first in Brunei Darussalam to achieve ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) programme-level certification.

The AUN-QA network is the established quality assurance network for higher education institutions in ASEAN, with the responsibility to promote quality assurance in higher education institutions, raise the quality of higher education, and collaborate with both regional and international bodies for the benefit of the ASEAN community.

The achievement of the geosciences programme demonstrates UBD’s commitment to implementing quality assurance processes to ensure continued excellence in teaching and research.

The AUN-QA certification was awarded for the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology programme, a popular option for students in the Faculty of Science. After completion, students have the option of proceeding to Master of Science (MSc) and PhD programmes.

Brunei Darussalam is a petroleum-producing country and several leading companies are located here, hence geology graduates are often recruited by oil and gas companies or associated service companies.

Geology graduates can also find careers in other industries related to mineral resources, groundwater exploration, environmental issues and construction, both at home and abroad, according to UBD.

The 180th AUN-QA assessment of the geosciences programme took place online on September 21-26, and the certification was announced on December 2.
