UBD and UTB lecturers join US-ASEAN University Connections Initiative

Two lecturers recently returned from the United States (US) after participating in the inaugural US-ASEAN University Connections Initiative (UCI), a White House initiative designed to foster sustainable academic partnerships between the US and other nations.

The UCI was announced during the US-ASEAN Special Summit in May 2022.

Universiti Brunei Darussalam lecturer Dr Siti Nornadhirah binti Amdani and Universiti Teknologi Brunei senior lecturer Jennifer Voon were in the US from February 17-24 to exchange best practices with US academics and explore opportunities for collaborative research and teaching initiatives.

The two lecturers met with US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland at the US Embassy in Brunei Darussalam on March 9 to share their experiences during the programme.

“The US Embassy was pleased to offer this opportunity for outstanding Bruneian academics to pursue professional development and expand their network with US counterparts,” said  McClelland.

“We recognise that the free exchange of culture, information and ideas can have a far-reaching and long-term positive impact on the relationship between our nations, and the US Embassy will continue to promote programmes that bring the people of Brunei and the US closer together.”
