A LOCAL duo accused of trespassing and causing mischief was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Hafizah binti Zakaria and Bibi Suryati binti Jefridin admitted they trespassed into the compound of two terraced houses at RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau at 6am on May 9 that were vacant and still in the possession of the Housing Development Department under the Ministry of Development. The defendants admitted to this in earlier court proceedings.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali revealed that the pair had caused some damage by removing window panes from the two houses.
Two contractor workers painting a nearby house noticed the suspicious activities and informed their foreman. The foreman, who arrived at the scene, told the women to come back with him to the two houses.
The foreman lodged a police report, and also called an officer of the Housing Development Department, who confronted the defendants. A police report led to the defendants’ arrest.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, a local man accused of house trespass was charged in the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Mohammad Zul-Waliyuddin bin Haji Asmad, 28, with his accomplice who is still at large, is accused of trespassing a house in Kampong Katok on the morning of May 5.
The defendant is being charged under Section 451 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 that carries a prison term of up to five years and also may carry a fine. If he is found to have the intention of stealing from the house, the prison term can be extended up to 10 years if found guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Qamarul Affiyan bin Abdul Rahman applied for the defendant to be remanded until tomorrow pending further investigations.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar has set May 16 for the next mention of the case, and allowed the prosecution’s application for the defendant’s case to be combined with another case in the next mention.
