The Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office has issued two compound fines totalling BND200 to two local women for littering in a public area in the Belait District.
The women violated Chapter 30, Section 12 (1)(a) of the Minor Offences Act by disposing bagged dust, ash, as well as boxes and barrels in the surrounding public area of Tamu Sungai Bera, Seria.
They were given seven days to settle the fine, failing which the matter will be forwarded to the court. If found guilty, each of the accused will be handed a further BND1,000 fine or a month’s imprisonment.
For subsequent offences, a penalty of a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment of not more than three months will be levied.
The Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office reminded members of the public and business owners to ensure the cleanliness of the surrounding environment, to be responsible for the trash and to dispose them at the designated areas; and that any sightings of illegal dumping can be reported at 8711316.
