Two trapped in car after flash floods rescued in Johor Bahru

JOHOR BAHRU (Bernama) – Two senior citizens had a terrifying experience when the car they were in was trapped in a flash flood near a bank at Taman Sentosa yesterday.

Johor Bahru Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Zaid Iskandar Mohd Nor said 11 fire personnel in an engine rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call about 4pm and managed to rescue the two women, Nuriah Abdullah, 85, and Juliette Lai, 75.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru Civil Defence Force officer Lt Mohd Aziz Jupri said flash floods hit five areas in the Johor Bahru district. The areas affected included Kampung Hajah Hasnah, Kampung Bendahara, Kampung Mohd Amin and Jalan Kijang.

So far, a relief centre has been opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nong Chik, but the number of people who were evacuated had yet to be determined, he added.
