Two schools to receive ASEAN Eco-Schools Awards in Cambodia

Deputy Principal of Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School Hajah Junaidah binti Haji Tajudin and Education Officer of Muda Hashim Secondary School Nur Mazirazuze binti Mazlan left for Siem Reap, Cambodia, to receive the ASEAN Eco-Schools Awards yesterday.

The schools emerged champions in this year’s 3rd ASEAN Eco- Schools Awards.

The nomination of the two schools as national recipients of the award was made by the Ministry of Education through the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre, while the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) of the Ministry of Development as the national focal point for Brunei Darussalam in the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE) recognised the nomination.

The selections of eco-school’s awardees were based on the promotion of the green and environmental awareness in its schools and communities.

The award ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Cambodia in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat will be held today and tomorrow.

The award aims to recognise efforts of eco-schools in ASEAN member states (AMS) in inculcating environmental awareness in every aspect of education to their students and surrounding communities.

Participants will also visit eco-schools in Cambodia, attend seminars, plenary sessions, group discussions and networking with participants from other AMS.
