MIRI (Bernama) – Two men, who were so taken in by advertisements on Facebook, have ended up being about RM1,900 poorer.
Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Head Superintendent Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said in a statement yesterday that the first victim, a 25-year-old civil servant, saw an advertisement on cheap car tyres last Friday and contacted the con man.
The victim banked in RM1,200 into the suspect’s Maybank account before realising he had been duped when he did not get the package yesterday and also failed to contact the suspect.
In the second case, a 23-year-old man, a part-time worker, saw a mobile phone ad on Facebook last Thursday and contacted the seller at 0163604872.
The victim transferred RM709, including for shipping charges, into the bank account of the suspect on the same day, but he too realised he had been deceived when he did not receive the phone as promised last Friday and also failed to contact the seller.
