Two men charged with theft

Two local men were charged in the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday for their involvement in a string of theft cases at a commercial building and a residence, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said in a statement.

Following investigations carried out by the Kampong Ayer Police Station, the first defendant, Mohd Abdul Hakim bin Mohd Tarip, 20, and unemployed was found to be involved in the theft of a drilling machine and its battery and charger.

The court found the first defendant guilty under section 379 and 380 of the Penal Code Chapter 22 and sentenced him to 15 months in prison.

Meanwhile, the first defendant and the second defendant, Md Yusra bin Faris, a 23-year-old unemployed were believed to have been involved in two thefts at Kampong Lumapas area, including the theft of a pitcher.

Investigations revealed all stolen items were sold by the defendants for food and personal items and were successfully traced and confiscated for evidence.

The second defendant was remanded until May 28 for the next mention of the case.
