Two locals to face the music for stealing

The Syariah High Court sentenced two locals for Sariqah (theft) offences under Section 55 (3)(b) of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013 which carries Ta’azir (punishment for offences at the discretion of the judge (Qadi).

The cases were investigated by Tutong Police Station. Muhammad Abdull Kahar bin Haji Tuah, 28, was sentenced for stealing a sensor light and faced one month’s imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Denny bin Anggau, 26, was convicted of stealing a powerbank, a headlamp, a speaker and fishing gear.

He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.

The court ordered for the stolen items to be returned to the victim. The thefts occurred at a house in STKRJ Kampong Telisai, Tutong.

The court has taken into account public interest with stealing being an offence by law and against the Syariah law.

Denny also had a previous criminal record for stealing.
