THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced two local men to prison, after they pleaded guilty to an attempt of stealing electrical cables.

Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid handed a six-month prison term to Mohd Yasri bin Mohd Yusof, 28, and a seven-month prison term to Marali bin Bakar, 33.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli informed the court that the defendants were armed with a bag of tools when they set out on foot from Barek Lorong Seria towards Tenaga Suria Brunei in Seria, in the early evening hours of February 18.

They crawled through the bushes when approaching the gates to Tenaga Suria Brunei, and waited until it was dark.

However, before they could carry out the theft under the cover of darkness, they noticed a security guard in the vicinity and decided to call off their plan.

The pair were spotted by several police officers on patrol duty, who conducted body searches and discovered the tools.

Both men were taken in for investigations, which led to their admissions.
