KABUL (XINHUA) – Two people including a university lecturer were killed in a bomb attack outside Kabul University in the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday, police said.
The explosion occurred at around 11.25am local time near the gate of Kabul University which is located in Police District 3 of the capital city. A sedan car was struck and destroyed by the blast, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz told reporters via a text message.
A Kabul police source told Xinhua anonymously that among the killed was a lecturer of Kabul University’s faculty of Islamic studies in the blast of an improvised bomb attached to his sedan, which was detonated possibly by remote control.
A team from the Kabul police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was investigating the case, he said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion yet, the latest in a string of bomb attacks and targetted killings in the Asian country. Earlier yesterday, an explosion occurred targetting a vehicle near Hamid Karzai International Airport about five kilometres from the city centre of Kabul, causing no casualties.
