Two arrested for alleged attempt to steal electric hydraulic transformers

TWO suspects who allegedly attempted to steal electric hydraulic transformers belonging to the Department of Electrical Services (DES) were arrested by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) through the Tutong Police Station.

The case was reported to the RBPF last Sunday at the electric sub station store in Pasir Putih, Tanjong Maya, Tutong. The first suspect, Kusnady bin Halawi, 35, works in the Upper Wiring Division of the DES.

The second suspect, Indian national Gurval Singh, 43, works as a lorry driver.

Security personnel at the store managed to detain both suspects after they acted suspiciously.

Kusnady will be brought to the court to face the charge under Section 381 of the Penal Code Chapter 22 which is theft from employer. If found guilty, he will face imprisonment of not more than seven years and maybe levied fine.

Gurval Singh, meanwhile, is detained for 48 hours to facilitate in further investigation.

The RBPF urged the public to report any suspicious activities through the police hotline at 993 or go to the nearest police station.
