THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed jail sentences to a trio who pleaded guilty to charges of theft.
Mohd Zulnizam bin Zulkifli, 34, and Mohamad Nazib bin Ibrahim, 37, each received a 10-month jail sentence, while Haji Hamzah bin Haji Ibrahim, 41, was sentenced to eight months in jail.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli revealed in court yesterday that a man had gone to visit his late parents’ house at 11pm on June 4 in Kampong Manggis Dua.
On arriving at the house, he saw a vehicle parked in the garage occupied by two of the defendants, while one of the other three defendants stood nearby.
The man approached them and asked what they were doing there.
The defendant standing outside replied that they were sheltering from the rain.
The man, feeling suspicious of the three, called his brother for assistance. The defendants fled in the car upon seeing this.
The man chased the car but the defendants escaped.
The man went back to the house and found that it had been ransacked and some belongings missing.
He lodged a police report leading to the trio’s arrest. It was later discovered that the three were involved in stealing a safe box from the house.
Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim presided over the case.
