Tourists join royal birthday celebration

HUNDREDS of people, including foreign tourists, turned out to witness the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the capital, yesterday.

Among them was Chairperson of the Board of Women’s Islamic Welfare in Malaysia Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Norsiah binti Haji Musa who told the Bulletin, “We are here to witness His Majesty’s birthday celebration and experience the festive atmosphere.

“We are staying in Brunei for three days and two nights, including going on boat trips to see the beauties of nature,” she added.

Tony Oikawa from Japan, who is also visiting Brunei for a few days, said, “This is my first time in Brunei Darussalam, and I didn’t know there would be a celebration for His Majesty’s birthday. I’m taking the opportunity to witness this momentous event.”

Haji Hassan bin Bakar, 61, from Kampong Rimba, said, “I’ve brought along my grandchildren for them to witness the grand occasion of His Majesty’s birthday celebration.”
