Tourism forum puts focus on industry revival, recovery

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong represented the Sultanate in the Global Tourism Forum – Leaders Summit Asia which ended yesterday.

The two-day forum was a collaboration between Indonesia Tourism Forum (ITF) and the World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI).

While a physical conference was held in Jakarta, the minister attended via video conference.

The forum was participated by ASEAN tourism ministers, representatives from United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), prominent leaders and international experts, strategists and technologists in travel industry, travel agencies and tour operators, businesses, investment groups and bankers, investment consultancy companies, politicians, senior executives and public authorities, particularly those from ASEAN and Asia.

The forum discussed on the future of the tourism industry, the tourism policies that various governments have put in place to revive and refresh tourism activities and looking at opportunities for investment and cooperation in ASEAN and in Asia.

Discussions were also held on tourism achievements amid the pandemic, policy impacts on future tourism; the impact of media on tourism recovery, the value of eco-tourism in COVID-19, transformation of tourism industry under women leadership and new sustainable tourism impacts in post pandemic.
