The PlayStation Blog has announced the most downloaded PS5, PS4 and PS VR games on the PlayStation Store for 2020 in North America.


Following the launch of the PS5 in November, here are the top 10 most downloaded games on Sony’s next-gen console.

The title that topped the list for game downloads on PS5 was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a first-person shooter that puts players into the depths of the Cold War’s geopolitical battle of the early 1980s.

Taking the second spot on the list was Sony exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, an action-adventure title that follows the story of teenager Miles Morales as he follows in the footsteps of his mentor, Peter Parker, as the new Spider-Man.

Ubisoft’s role playing game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which sees the player become a legendary Viking warrior exploring England’s Dark Ages, took third place.

In the fourth spot was the latest edition of 2K’s long-running basketball simulation series, NBA 2K21 Next Generation, while the fifth spot went to PlayStation Studios’ and Bluepoint Games’ remake of the PS3 classic action role-playing game, Demon’s Souls.

EA Sports took the next two places on the list with the latest editions of two of its biggest franchises as American football game Madden NFL 21 was in sixth and football game FIFA 21 in seventh.

Eighth went to PlayStation exclusive 3D platforming adventure title Sackboy: A Big Adventure, followed by two games from Ubisoft that occupied the last two places – mythological adventure game Immortals Fenyx Rising in ninth and action adventure title Watch

Dogs: Legion.


Here are the top 10 downloaded games for the PS4.

In addition to topping the PS5 list, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also tops the PS4 list, while open world action-adventure title Grand Theft Auto V, which first released all the way back in 2013, placed second.

Third place went to another Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, while the ever popular open world sandbox game Minecraft took fourth spot.

In the fifth spot was Sony exclusive Ghost of Tsushima, an action-adventure stealth game that follows the fictional story of one of the last samurai on Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan in the 1270s.

Sixth place went to another Sony exclusive, The Last of Us Part II, which is set in post-apocalyptic United States five years after PS3 and PS4 title The Last of Us, and continues the story of protagonists Ellie and Joel.

Publisher 2K took the seventh and eighth spots with its basketball simulation games, NBA 2K21 and NBA 2K20 respectively.

In ninth was Square Enix’s epic role-playing game Final Fantasy VII Remake. Released on April 10, 2020, Remake is the long-awaited re-imagining of the classic 1997 role-playing game from the first PlayStation console, Final Fantasy VII. Rounding up the top 10 in tenth was the latest version of EA Sports’ American football series, Madden NFL 21.


PlayStation’s virtual reality (VR) headset was first launched in October 2016. Here are the top 10 downloaded titles for PS VR in 2020.

Rhythm game Beat Saber tops the list. The title sees players slash beats of music as they fly towards them, surrounded by a futuristic world. In second place was Job Simulator, which is set in a world where robots have replaced all human jobs and players can relive “the glory days of work by simulating the ins and outs of being a gourmet chef, an office worker, a convenience store clerk, and more”.

Third is Superhot VR, a first-person shooter in which time moves only when the player moves, followed by action horror title The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners in fourth. Gladiator simulator game GORN took the fifth spot, while the sixth placed title was boxing game Creed Rise to Glory, and the first-person shooter Arizona Sunshine took the seventh spot.

Eighth place went to Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, an adventure game where players hone their lightsaber skills, navigate dangers and even come face to face with Darth Vader himself.

PS VR exclusives took the final two spots in the top 10 as platformer Astro Bot Rescue Mission took ninth spot, followed by Marvel’s Iron Man VR, which sees players don the Iron Man armour and take to the skies as they embark on an adventure.
