Top performing swimmers were feted during the 29th Brunei Age Group Swimming Championship at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Saturday.
The three-day competition witnessed serial medallists enhance their reputation as national talents. In the 13-and-under category, Fritz Gabrielle Mendoza from the LifeSkillSwim School was named Best Boy while Sharmeen Md Mharvin from the Brunei Speed Swimming Club was awarded Best Girl.
Fritz Gabrielle won four gold medals in the opening day of the competition and added the 100m breaststroke during the final day.
Meanwhile, Sharmeen meanwhile enjoyed success in the tournament after winning the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events before continuing her gold rush in the 50m backstroke and the 50m freestyle events.
The talented 13-year-old completed her campaign with a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, while setting a new championship record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:41.28s.
In the 14-15 years age group, Kai Jie Wong from the Hammerhead Swimming Club was named Best Boy while Hayley Wong from the Mabohai Swimming Club received the Best Girl award.
Kai Jie won gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley (IM), 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle events while Hayley secured victories in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle events.
Meanwhile, Joel Ling from Hammerhead Swimming Club was named Best Boy while Best Girl went to Andra Chai from Mabohai Swimming Club for both swimmers in the 16- 18 years age group. Joel Ling won the 100m freestyle and 200m IM events while Andra struck gold in the 200m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly events.
