“The Fuzhou Shiyyi Association was established in Brunei Darussalam 10 years ago with no prior experience or knowledge on the agenda of establishing an association,” said Organising Chairman and President of Fuzhou Shiyyi Association Jackson Ting Jack Hing.
“We have gone through and tackled constant challenges and hiccups throughout the journey. Through recollection and reflection, it is apparent now that we have all successfully overcome it, as we also comprehend to the other esteemed associations, we are also consistently achieving self-transcendence,” he said.
He made these comments during the 10th year anniversary celebration of the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association at its JT Multipurpose Hall, Fuzhou Shiyyi Association building on Saturday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, the guest of honour and spouse attended the event.
High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah and spouse and the outgoing Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong were also present.
A cake-cutting ceremony and the presentation of a BND10,000 donation amount for the Differently Abled Fund under the Community Development Department (JAPEM) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to the minister started the event.
Jackson Ting added that the association had begun on nothing, but since its establishment, many of their associates worked tirelessly to assist the association, regardless of personal gains and losses.
“Even with limitations and constraints, efforts and commitment were still being poured to serve the association.
“The collective act of understanding righteousness and selfless dedication is not only heartfelt and admirable but to be hugely regarded as the prominent source of the association’s success.”
He highlighted that the initial notion of the association is to preserve the welfare and provide potential resolutions for the Fuzhou Association while contributing to the social aspect of the Sultanate, and to achieve the notion, the utmost ingenuity and an admissible level of essence is required.
“Over the past 10 years, the association has always firmly adhered to the notion of ‘Remembering Your Roots’ and always helping each other side by side.
“That is to enhance the unity of fellow Fuzhou associations, establishing solid and communicable networks and relationships both locally and abroad, and spreading the concept of togetherness,” he said.
The outgoing ambassador congratulated the association on its 10th year anniversary.
She recalled having witnessed the active development of the association as well as having been involved in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the opening of the building.
The outgoing ambassador added that the development and growth of the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association were not only due to the leadership of the board of directors but also participation and support the association had from the young talents dedicated to contributing to the association.
The event was enlivened with performances from the committee members.
