The Ministry of Development (MoD)’s Public Works Department (JKR) signed contracts for three construction and maintenance projects yesterday.
Hiew HY Construction Sdn Bhd was awarded a contract of BND12,933,010.99 to provide a safe and comfortable junction for road users, in addition to facilitating the flow of traffic with the construction of a flyover at the Muara-Tutong highway/junction in the Kampong Lugu housing area. The scope of work, which will take two years to complete, include the building of four lanes, a two-way road and concrete drains; installing road safety equipment; implementing protection works; and the relocation of basic facilities such as water, electricity and telecommunications.
Meanwhile, Nur Tharwan Sdn Bhd was tasked with the maintenance of drainage and pools in the Tutong District, to reduce floods, especially during heavy rain, as well as improving the drainage system in areas regularly affected by floods.
The project, worth BND418,385, will take 36 months to complete.
The scope of work involves grass-cutting and cleaning up rivers; digging and widening rivers and drains; clearing grass and trees at approved areas; providing immediate reports on flooding; and the disposal of fallen trees affecting the water flow in the Tutong area.
The third contactor, JYC Sdn Bhd, was awarded with a contract of BND346,290 for a widening and earthworks project in Kampong Birau and Kampong Padnunok, to improve the drainage system at flood-prone areas during heavy rains and high tides. The scope of work, which will take up to 15 months, will include the channelling and widening of rivers; topographic and hydrographic surveys; the building of a weir to control water flow; the construction of a gabion wall; and grass-clearing and clean-up work.
Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar was present.
The ceremony also witnessed the handover of contract documents and letters of appointment to Petar Perunding Sdn Bhd, for the upgrading of the treatment plant at Kumbahan Gadong (Phase 2), Pintu Malim and pump stations; LKA Consult Sdn Bhd, for a proposed National Isolation Centre Laboratory NTRL and Virology Services; and Bolton Hennessey Sdn Bhd, for a flyover construction project at the Muara-Tutong/ Kampong Lugu housing area.
