Three locals, foreigner and company fined for breaking rules

IN ITS continuous efforts to ensure Bandar Seri Begawan remains clean, the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department Law Enforcement Unit carried out an operation on Monday.

Codenamed ‘Operasi Bersih 86/2019,’ the operation saw three locals and a foreigner slapped with BND100 fines each for disposing trash in public places, a violation of the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30 of Section 12 (1).

The offenders are Mohammad Rahimi bin Mohammad Razali, Adi Nulazree bin Rosli and Ainah Haji Hamid, as well as Masharof from Bangladesh.

The offenders have been given seven days to settle the fine, failing which the matter will be referred to court. If found guilty, a BND1,000 fine or a month imprisonment for the first convicted offence will be imposed. For a subsequent offence, the punishment will a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment of not more than three months.

The BSB Municipal Department Law Enforcement Unit urged the public to comply with regulations under the Minor Offences Act, and to not throw rubbish in public areas

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a compound fine to a company in the Belait District.

Syarikat KYMK Rauyah was fined BND200 for violating Chapter 30, Section 12 (1)(b) of the Minor Offences Act by littering in the surrounding area of the Pengiran Hashim bin Pengiran Haji Jadid Building at Pandan 4. Toilet bowls and building materials were dumped in the area.

The company was given seven days to settle the compound fine, failing which the matter will be referred to court.
