Three individuals, company slapped with compound fines

The Enforcement Division at the Belait District Office issued a compound fine of BND500 to a local individual for irresponsible littering on Tuesday.

The littering, which was a violation of Section 12(1)(f) of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30, was discovered during a routine patrol at an open field at Kampong Sungai Taring, Lumut.

The individual was given a seven-day period to settle the compound fine, the failure to comply will result in prosecution in court.

If convicted, a fine of BND1,000 will be imposed for the first fine, and BND3,000 for subsequent offences and imprisonment not exceeding three months.

In light of the incident, the Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office reminded companies as well as the public to properly dispose garbage in designated areas and not leave them in public areas.

The division conducts routine checks and patrols to ensure the cleanliness of the environment.

Meanwhile, two individuals and a company were slapped with compound fine on Monday by personnel of the Law Enforcement Unit of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department for violation of the Minor Offences Act Section 12(1) Chapter 30 of disposing rubbish in public places in Gadong during a routine operation.

The two individuals ordered to pay BND100 each are Indonesian Avando Hartanto and Marcelino Villamor Palma from the Philippines. The company – Syarikat Esda Contractor – was levied BND500.

Members of the public and companies are reminded not to dump rubbish in private areas that is only intended to concerned parties.
