Three foreigners, two companies fined for littering

Three foreign citizens and two local companies were recently issued with compound fines by the Law Enforcement Unit of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department.
The offenders were caught in a routine operation carried out by enforcement officers from July 1-21.

The three foreigners – Young Hong Wee from Malaysia, Yaserarafah Salabbai from India and Sutrisno from Indonesia – were each levied with a BND100 compound fine for violations under the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) (a) and (1) (b), which included littering and discarding cigarette butts in public places around Kiulap, Delima Satu area and the Bunut area.

The two companies – Syarikat Dayang Limah dan Anak-Anak and Mahabub Sdn Bhd – were each fined BND200 for violations under the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30, Section (1) (b) for the disposal of unwanted items in public areas around Manggis and Sungai Akar. All of the offenders have been given seven days to settle their respective fines. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000 or a month of imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.

Business establishments and members of the public are reminded to use proper waste disposal methods or recycling facilities, in order to protect health and the environment.
