THREE locals suspected of impersonating law enforcement officers were arrested by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and produced in the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday to face charges.

Officers from the Muara Police Station arrested the suspects, Radiman bin Noordin, 34, Awangku Haji Abdul Razak bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, 38, and Mohammad Rizal bin Haji Md Yazid, 39, after receiving complaints on the three, mainly from foreign workers at a construction site in Kampong Serasa, Mukim Serasa.

All three men were charged in court under Section 170 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 for impersonating a civil servant, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of imprisonment up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

The court granted all the suspects to be further remanded to assist in further police investigations.

The RBPF reminded the public to be extra vigilant when being approached by individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers or uniformed personnel, and always request proof of identification from the individuals and take down their details in such cases for future reference with the authorities.
