    Three companies fined for illegal rubbish disposal

    The Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office recently issued compound fines on three companies for the violation of Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 of illegally disposing rubbish in public areas.

    One company, which violated Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30 of the act was slapped with a BND200 fine, while the remaining two offenders were levied with BND500 compound fines each for violation of Section12(1)(c) and Section12(1)(d). The offenders were given seven days to settle the fine. The failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court. If guilty, they will face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence, and between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

    The agency reminded the public, especially companies and owners of commercial premises, to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose rubbish in public areas.
