Thousands join walkathon, BND8,000 raised

Thousands of participants comprising parents, teachers and students from private education institutions gathered for a walkathon at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday.

Director-General of Education at the Ministry of Education Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, the guest of honour, officiated the walkathon.

Themed ‘Generasi Sihat Generasi Hebat’, the walkathon began with an aerobic session followed by the flag-off of the 3km walkathon.

The walkathon was organised by the Private Schools Leaders Executive Committee (JAPSS) with the support of Private Education Division.

Meanwhile, the Bandarku Ceria event was organised by the Private Education Division to enliven the walkathon.

Among the objectives of the event were to strengthen ties between JAPSS, Private Education Division as well as private education institutions through a family and welfare-oriented activity. It also aimed to encourage students to lead a healthy lifestyle.

BND8,000 was collected and the proceeds will be distributed among participating schools (50 per cent), Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (15 per cent) and JAPSS (35 per cent).
