James Kon

A Vietnamese cultural storybook was launched by the Embassy of Vietnam in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with the Brunei Reading and Literacy Association (ReLA), in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Sultanate.

Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan was the guest of honour.

Also present was Ambassador of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam Tran Van Khoa.

The book is the fourth in the first volume of the Cultural Stories From Around the World series.

The book aims to promote closer ties between Brunei and Vietnam through the exchange and retelling of cultural stories.

The Story of the Vietnamese Rice Cake tells the origin of Banh Chung and Banh Day rice cakes and of its creation by Lang Lieu, the son of the Hung King during the Hong Bang Dynasty.

The story is retold in the book by its writers, which included Tran Van Khoa, Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid and Haji Nasir Latif. The book was illustrated by Nurun Ahmad.
