‘The LESS Project’ best in science competition

A team from St Margaret’s School – Rahimah binti Mohammad Basiuni @ Radin Mas Basiuni, Jovena Tan Wie, and Mishael Alleysha Rafiqin binti Reni – with their project ‘the LESS Project’ (Limiting Energy, Striving Sustainability) to raise awareness on food composting and launching a composting kit, were announced the winners of Seria Energy Lab’s (SEL) Women in Science 2022.

An award ceremony was held on Saturday to present prizes to the winners at the Grand Ballroom of V-Plaza Hotel in Kuala Belait.

In second place was a team from the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTEB), comprising Amanina Noey binti Muhammad Aeizlan Boey, Angie Lau Huey Ching, and Miza Hannani bint Haji Hazren; with their project ‘Using Microbubbles to Mitigate Pollution’ demonstrating the use of microbubbles, their generation and how they can benefit the community when used on polluted bodies of water.

In third place was a group from Ma’had Islam Brunei – Auni binti Ahmad Aidil Aliyusah, Nursabrina binti Abdul Rahim, and Nur Afiqah binti Hassan – with their project ‘Communication and Technology Development Programme (CTD)’, aimed to equip students with easy-to-access information, better communication, accelerated learning, and opportunities to practise what they learnt.

The top team received a BND500 cash prize, certificates and a trophy from Ambassador of SEL and winner of the Women in Science 2021 competition Nuramanina @ Siti Hawa binti Haji Ariffin.

The winners for the Science Show 2022 competition were also announced at the event.

In the Primary Education category, Ahmad Arib bin Haji Mohamad Ibrahim and Muhammad Ady Hafiz bin Adnan from Ma’had Islam Brunei who placed first, received BND300.

Two special awards were also handed to the Primary Education Category, including Best Male Performer won by Ahmad Arib from Ma’had Islam Brunei, and Best Female Performer won by Lanika Areesya binti Shahminan Kadir.

The champion for the Secondary Education category was bagged by Ma’had Islam Brunei represented by Siti Nurunnajihah binti Haji Yahminuddin Shah, Siti Nurmusfirah Risna binti Mosalie, Alya Faqihah binti Haji Zainal, Nur Aleesya Basirah binti Asmadi and Nur Fatin ‘Aisy Ahumaira binti Mohamad Sahrol Asni. The champion went home with a cash prize of BND400, a trophy and certificates.

Best Performer Award went to Siti Nurmusfirah Risna.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of recognition awards for SEL staff by the Social Investment Lead at the Communications and External Affairs Department, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd Haziq bin Abdullah Lim.
