FOUR Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Secondary School Year 9 students chalked up further business competition success after being awarded the Most Traditional and Healthy category in this year’s Brunei Entrepreneurial Education Scheme or BEES.
The theme for 2018 was ‘Sustainability’. Four students, Siti Hakeemah Sabrina binti Haji Mohamad Sabri and Nur Irdina Azwina binti Haji Kuswady (Year 9 Fast), Nur Nasya Fatrisya binti Karim and Dayangku Aniisa binti Pengiran Azaleen (Year 9 Arts 2) guided by their business teachers, Noorhafizah binti Haji Alias and Amanda Wong opted for an explosive flowery product – Lailafizz Bath-bomb made with a local flower, Bunga Kuduk Kuduk.
The main objective of BEES is for students to incorporate knowledge and experience gained through the various stages of the competition from July to November.
The process of product design and marketing across time is key here, not simply making something, and just selling it. Students have the opportunity at each stage to reflect on what they have done well and what they need to change.
There were six phases in BEES 2018. These included topic assessment and consideration, assessment of capabilities (July 19), determining the scope of a valid market and marketing (August 2), product development and improvement (August 23), reassessment of the product (September 6), validation of the product, trial pitch, and development (September 26), and lastly the qualifying round on October 11.
The year 2018 has certainly been a great one for YSHHB Secondary School entrepreneurs.
