Participants in a blood donation drive organised by the Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its positive impact on the community.
Haji Mohd Hardi bin Haji Matassim, a regular donor, said, “I’ve been donating blood since my army days. I can’t recall how many times, but helping those in need has always been my goal.”
Md Ming Zho bin Abdullah Low, a second-time donor, said, “A friend encouraged me to save lives and I’m definitely going to donate more in the future.”
The blood donation drive, held in conjunction with Memorial Day of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on October 13, aimed to ensure a reliable blood supply for emergency situations in the Sultanate. The event took place at the Blood Donation Centre, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) and collected a total of 31 pints of blood from 8am to 11.30am and 1pm to 3pm.
Thai Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Boosara Kanchanalai led the activity, marking her sixth blood donation. Reflecting on her first experience two years ago, she said, “I was scared at first, but it became easier and fulfilling to know that my blood would help those in need.” She encouraged the public to donate, emphasising the life-saving importance of such contributions.
In recognition of her efforts, JPMC Medical Director Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer presented a certificate of appreciation to the ambassador. JPMC Laboratory Manager Dr Haji Mohamad bin Haji Kassim was also present at the event.
This marks the 11th blood donation drive organised by the embassy and the second in collaboration with JPMC, following an encouraging response from the Thai community. – Fadley Faisal
