TGM win Belait basketball tournament

Despite both teams having equal footing with skilled players on both sides, TGM was able to pull two points ahead to be crowned champion of the JCWE Veteran’s Cup on Friday.

Held over two weeks at the New Village Mutual Aid Basketball Court in Seria, five teams competed in the basketball tournament – Water Pro, TGM, Menglait, Redz Eagles and The Rookies’.

Only four teams apart from Redz Eagles advanced to the semi-finals with Menglait and Water Pro losing their match against TGM and The Rookies’.

Both Menglait and Water Pro vied for podium finish in the runner-up match with the latter emerging victorious.

The finals between TGM and The Rookies’ saw the former gaining a seven-point lead in the first quarter which grew to an 11-point lead in the second quarter.

The Rookies’ maintained their composure in the third quarter and regained control of the match as TGM’s lead shrank. The Rookies’ eventually gained the lead in the final quarter.

With both teams trading leads into the final minutes of the match, TGM managed to score a three-point shot in the final seconds to win the match with a final score of 76-74.

JCWE Sdn Bhd representative Johnny Chong witnessed the final matches and prize presentation.

Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) Chairman Koo Kong Loi was also present.

The tournament was co-organised by BDBA and JCWE and sponsored by Hui Huang Enterprise.
