Temburong inferno tamed in five minutes

No fatalities were reported after an inferno tore through a workers’ quarter in Senukoh in Temburong District on Tuesday morning.

ASO Lain anak Asun led nine firefighters from Bangar Fire Station to the scene after a 7.30am distress call was received, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said.

Firefighters sprang into action to contain the blaze as it swiftly spread across 12 units of the wooden structure. The flames were tamed within five minutes, however, a vehicle was also damaged in the fire.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are under investigation.

Commanding Officer of Operation ‘G’ Branch SSFR Haji Afiq bin Haji Julah, Operation Officer SSFR Mohammad Zakwan bin Idris and Acting Deputy Commanding Officer of Operation ‘G’ Branch SO Jamaludin bin Ahmad observed the operations.

Additionally, Kampong Labu Estate and Piasau-Piasau Village Head Haji Sulaiman bin Nasir as well as Public Works Department officials were also on hand to lend their assistance.

The FRD advises the public to have fire extinguishers and fire blankets at home, to switch off electrical appliances after use and before leaving the house, to not leave cooking unattended, to ventilate the house by opening all windows and doors in the event of a gas leak, and to ensure electricity wiring works are carried out by accredited companies – in accordance to the standards set by the Department of Electrical Services.
