Team Kyojins were crowned champions in the boys’ youth category of the Brunei Handball Federation (BHF) Mini League (Series 1) 2021 after a dramatic 10-9 victory over Team Armada in the final at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
With both teams locked in a tactical battle and the tie threatened to go either way, a Kyojins player scored the decisive winner in the closing stages to seal victory.
Abdul Waliyulhakim bin Saiful Rizal played a starring role in the final for the newly-crowned winners after registering seven goals with teammates Yoshua Roni B Render, Martin bin Juin and Muaz Abdul Fattah bin Haji Azman also finding the net.
Joining four-goal star Khoo Soon Ming in the score-sheet for Team Armada were Azri bin Zainal Arfan, Muhammad Brazilian bin Masri and Mohamad Naqib Nukman bin Mohamad Azren.
Meanwhile, Team Ranger emerged winners in the girls’ youth category after a 6-4 win at the expense of Team Power in the final.
The trio of Mark Phyryn @ Airyn Mark Edy, Faiqah Solehah binti Haji Aznan and Nur Fadzillah binti Mulyadi scored twice each for the victorious Team Ranger.
Nur Effatul Ameerah binti Suzaini netted on three occasions while Nur Hafizzah binti Matassan scored once for Team Power.
For the individual awards, Abdul Waliyulhakim bin Saiful Rizal scooped the top scorer award in the boys’ youth category while Faiqah Solehah binti Haji Aznan collected the top scorer award in the girls’ youth category.
Mohammad Asyraf Hamidin bin Haji Mustapa took the best performance award in the boys’ youth category while Nur Fadzillah binti Mulyadi won the best performance award in the girls’ youth category.
President of Brunei Handball Federation Kifli bin Haji Jaafar presented the prizes and individual accolades.
Organised by the Brunei Handball Federation, 48 participants competed in the tournament.
