Fifty students and teachers from seven primary schools in the Brunei-Muara District enhanced their disaster risk awareness and preparedness after completing the two-day School-Based Disaster Risk Management (SBDRM) programme yesterday.
The programme, held at Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, was organised by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) in collaboration with the Department of Schools at the Ministry of Education. Participating schools included Saba Darat Primary School, Sungai Siamas Primary School, Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School, Bendahara Lama Primary School, Haji Tarif Primary School, Pintu Malim Primary School, and Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School.
Participants engaged in various group activities, including learning disaster safety practices (Dos and Don’ts), understanding natural hazards (Nature Power), preparing emergency grab bags, conducting hazard assessments, and developing action plans to enhance school disaster preparedness.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Safety and Welfare) at the MoHA Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon attended the closing ceremony as the guest of honour. She presented certificates to the participants and facilitators. – James Kon
