The Ministry of Education (MoE) and Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) signed a contract for the provision of laptops and Internet data for teachers and students at the ministry’s main hall on Wednesday.
Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman witnessed the signings between Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad and Permanent Secretary (Investment) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, who represented UNN as its Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Acting Director of Information and Communication Technology at the MoE Chan Yong Kim made welcoming remarks at the ceremony, followed by a speech by UNN Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Steffen Oehler.
The project is granted a three-year contract to the consortium of UNN together with telecommunication companies – Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), Imagine Sdn Bhd (imagine) and Progresif Sdn Bhd.
The contract signing aims to assist underprivileged students and all teachers from public schools under the MoE, to help them implement home-based teaching and learning more effectively.
It is also in line with MoE’s strategic objectives of increasing cooperation with various stakeholders and providing equal access to quality education.
With the collaboration, it is hoped that the affiliated companies will be able to provide integrated services and support the Brunei Vision 2035 in driving towards an educated, highly skilled and successful population.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, DST CEO Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni, imagine CEO Suzannawati binti Haji Suharju, Progresif CEO Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar, and MoE senior officers also attended the event.
