THE Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) celebrated the country’s 35th National Day at the college’s auditorium on Thursday.
The event began with a welcoming speech from the guest of honour, Director and Senior Assistant Professor at the Academy of Brunei Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah.
The college’s Acting Principal Hajah Monaliza binti Haji Abdul Halim, Deputy Principal (Academic) Sahrulbariah binti Haji Sulaiman and Deputy Principal (Administration) Dayangku Zalina binti Pengiran Haji Aliuddin were also present.
Performances by the Maktab Duli students from the Choir, Gulintangan, Traditional Dance and Malay Language and Literature clubs as well as uniformed groups enlivened the event.
Competitions organised included the National Day video and National Day banner competitions, with the prizes presented by the guest of honour.
The event ended with the handing over of the national flag to next year’s event organisers for the college’s 36th National Day 2020 celebration.
Meanwhile, 559 students from Taman Asuhan Kanak-Kanak (TASKA) Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) attended the school’s 35th National Day celebration at the TASKA hall on Saturday.
TASKA YSHHB Acting Principal Datin Hajah Zainab binti Haji Abdul Wahab was the guest of honour.
The celebration began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Muhd Nazmi bin Puasa followed by the singing of the national anthem and school song.
It continued with a video presentation on the general assembly of the 35th National Day celebration at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
The ceremony also saw a march-past by Kindergarten 1 to 3 students.
Elsewhere, the Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) School in Kampong Sungai Akar held its National Day celebration at the school’s multi-purpose hall recently.
Among those present were special guest Secretary General of PGGMB Supreme Council Haji Matassan bin Haji Bungsu, PGGMB School Principal Haji Zulkipli bin Haji Ladis and teaching staff.
The ceremony started with a mini parade and flag waving around the school compound by the special guest, principal, teachers and students.
The event commenced with the singing of the national anthem and school song followed by a welcoming speech from the principal who emphasised the importance of inculcating the history of Brunei’s independence among the young students.
The programme continued with the declaration of ikrar (oath) and recitation of Doa Hari Kebangsaan led by Year 6 students Mahmud Khalish bin Haji Mohd Zaifulizham and Muzaffar ‘Ukasyah bin Azman respectively.
The event concluded with the singing of patriotic songs.
