A group of local secondary English teachers received certificates to mark the end of their training course in Exam Item Development at a graduation ceremony held at Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) recently.
The certificates were presented by Assistant Director/Head of Programme, Academic Section and Academic Unit Sarimah binti Abu Bakar, on behalf of the Department of Schools.
Department of Schools Focal Person and Academic Unit Officer Suria Majidah binti Haji Mohammad and CfBT’s Head of ELT Department Susan Trpcic also attended. The IGCSE ESL workshops were conducted by Nik Clark (SOAS College) and the ‘O’ Level sessions by Tania Canton (STPRI).
The training course, conducted by CfBT Education Services in partnership with the Ministry of Education, provided practical training for local teachers of ‘O’ Level and IGCSE ESL English in developing, vetting and moderating assessment items.
It is part of the capacity building aims of the partnership to work with local teachers who show an aptitude for, and interest in, writing standardised assessments.
The training programme, which started in 2017, will be rolled out nationally in 2020 as part of an ongoing aim to build the capacity of local teachers in exam item writing.
