Tanjong Maya shuttlers bag clean sweep in badminton meet

Nur Eillinnia Jatah and Siti Nur Saikyillah Atiqa Md Jefri from Tanjong Maya Secondary School (SMTM) emerged winners in the female doubles category of the UNIFIED Badminton Championship held at the Youth Centre at the capital yesterday.

The duo bested the pairing of Fatin Syazwani Muhammad Rijal and Vivie Erna Merayu from SMTM who finished runners-up.

Nurul Shamima Shakirah Abdullah and Rabiatul Dahlia Khairul Shafiee from Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMSAB) came third.

Meanwhile in the male doubles category, Md Adrian Shah Md Azrie and Md Terry Abdullah Md Adri Shordy from SMTM emerged winners while the duo of Jespher Jalung Singa and Zharfan Syazwi Jaini from SMTM claimed runners-up spot.

Awangku Muhammad Qawi bin Pengiran Haji Zainal and Mohammad Shahrazeen Samat from Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA) settled for third place.

Co-curriculum Education Department Acting Director Awang Julaihi bin Haji Mohamad was the guest of honour and presented prizes.

Special Education Unit Acting Head Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan was also present.

The event, which commenced on January 20, was contested in a round robin format with seven male doubles teams and four female doubles teams.

The championship aimed to raise awareness to the general community concerning equal rights for people with different abilities in the field of sports especially badminton.

Jointly organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (PBKBD) with the cooperation of Co-curriculum Education Department, Special Education Department and Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam, a total of four schools participated.
