YEAR 7 students and teachers of Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School marked the Universal Children’s Day at the school’s multipurpose hall recently.
It was officiated by the school’s Principal, Mohammad Danny bin Aimi with a welcoming remark, emphasising the need for students to reap the opportunities given to them. It was advised that students should equip themselves with essential skills academically, mentally and spiritually.
To enliven the event, a group of Year 8 students performed a song ‘Anak Dunia’, in line with the theme of the event.
An officer from the Community Development Department Nurul Nazurah binti Jaya delivered an informative and educational talk on ‘Children’s Protections and Rights’. Real issues in Brunei pertaining to adolescents and promiscuity were highlighted. The invited speaker presented the audience with real cases handled by the department.
According to a press release, the school will embark on a weekly activity every Saturday for three weeks.
These activities are planned by different departments, a collaborative effort between CCA, academic and counselling units for the Year 7 and 8 students. A token of appreciation was presented to the speaker at the end the event.
