The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) hosted a talk on Cyber Security Awareness as one of the activities of the ministry’s open day, attended by students and teachers from Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and other private higher learning institutions recently.
The talk began with an introduction on the background of MTIC and its strategic plan by Research and Development Officer of Strategy Division at MTIC Saabiqah binti Zaini, followed by a cybersecurity awareness talk on Cybersecurity 101 by Operations Officer at Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) Nomi Hafiz Zakiah binti Haji Pawi and assisted by Ida Frida Abu.
IBTE Instructor Nur Hamizah binti Kamis said the talk was informative while the games raised awareness among the attendees. They were also excited to try the Seatbelt Convincer Experience and test drive the electric vehicle (EV) cars.
HNTec in Construction Engineering student Haji Abdul Wa’iz bin Haji Saidin said the presentation gave them a clear idea and showed how the country is developing with the technologies.
He said, “The open day caught my attention especially on how we should take care of our mental health by stopping cyberbullying, and keeping our social media private and secured from unhealthy activities.”
Students Nur Siti Ajar binti Zunaidi and Nur Afinaa Ezzati binti Mohamad Zaidi said the event was a fun visit and gave them insights on how to get a secure password and self-protect from cyberbullies.
Meanwhile, BTEC HND business student from Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology Nur Sabrina Syahirah binti Johari said she learned simple and practical ways on how to prevent cyber issues such as malware, ransomware and more.
