Tabuan midfielder Ahmad Danish Hakim bin Azami shifted from his role of supplying crosses to a goal-scorer after guiding his side to a hard-fought 1-0 win over a stubborn Rimba Star FC in the NFABD Under-16 Youth League at the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Football Field yesterday.

The league leaders finally broke the resistance of Rimba Star, who are 10th in the 11-member table, in the 37th minute after Ahmad Danish Hakim struck home the only goal of the game.

The midfielder, who enjoyed eight caps at the international level, was deployed on the left side of the field in the first half and was busy putting a shift in with his crossing on a regular basis.

Rimba Star kept the league leaders at bay in the first half, opening up the possibility that this could be a fixture which sneaks nearest title rivals DPMM FC into contention.

Ahmad Danish played an influential role in his side being awarded a free-kick after his cutback found a teammate whose shot was handled just outside the box.

Tabuan defender Muhd Aqil Ikhwan bin Azman’s stinging free-kick forced a smart save from Rimba Star goalkeeper and the follow-up ended harmlessly wide.
