Digital Dream won BND2,000 by defeating 11 other teams to emerge the first-place winner in the LiveWIRE Hackathon yesterday.
The winning pitch was a Bruneian start-up offering a sustainable packaging solution called BioBox for cutlery made from starch-based materials which are organic and biodegradable, providing a more environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional plastic.
Green Glory was in second place receiving BND1,500 while Hive Mind received BND1,000.
Shell LiveWIRE Brunei Chairman Md Erwan bin Md Said, Progresif Sdn Bhd representative Johan bin Dato Dr Haji Johar and Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) representative Md Syu’aib Ahmad Rafie presented the prizes.
The three-day hackathon was held at the Banquet Hall of the Progresif headquarters building.
This year’s competition focussed on contemporary challenges such as financial literacy, product innovation, sustainable future, maritime clusters, waste management and sustainable development goals (SDGs). LiveWIRE Hackathon began in 2021 in conjunction with Shell LiveWIRE Brunei’s 20th anniversary to commemorate Shell’s commitment in responding to evolving global needs.
This year saw 59 participants from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Politeknik Brunei (PB), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Business Campus, IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus, IBTE Agro-Technology Campus, and Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology.
Prior to the hackathon, they attended a two-day workshop facilitated by Shell LiveWIRE Brunei Counsellors and representatives from DARe at iCentre Brunei. They were mentored by industry experts from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), DARe, Progresif, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), Brunei Innovation Lab and Advanced Safety Technology Sdn Bhd as well as special duties officer from Sustainable Development Goals Unit at the Prime Minister’s Office.
