Support for over 4,000 orphans

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) handed over BND221,800 to over 4,000 registered orphans under the Community Development Department (JAPEM) as part of its support to the community.

The ceremony, part of an initiative with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), took place at the Ministry of Finance and Economy’s building yesterday.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, in his capacity as the Chairman of BIBD presented the mock cheque to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

The donations are hoped to lessen the financial burden of families while preparing for the upcoming festive season.

The event also saw the presentation of contributions amounting to BND6,700 as part of the Excellent Students Incentive Scheme, specifically for those who excelled in their examinations in 2019.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew presented the contributions to BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO Mubashar Khokhar.

The contributions will be handed over to nine orphans who sat for their ‘A’ Level, ‘O’ Level, Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB) and Primary School Assessment (PSR) examinations.

Meanwhile, a total of BND17,984 were also presented to the BIBD’s Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (ALAF) Programme. Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew handed over the contributions to BIBD’s Deputy Managing Director Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, in her capacity as Chairperson of the BIBD ALAF Board of Trustees.

The contributions are intended for the procurement of computer equipment to support BIBD ALAF students’ online learning. Currently, 240 students are being supported by the programme, which is BIBD’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative providing financial and academic assistance to students from underprivileged families.

BIBD will always continue to be a key strategic partner for various community-based initiatives and unwavering support to government agencies, as part of the bank’s commitment to be a ‘Partner in Progress’ as the nation strives towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.
