    Sultanate welcomes first cruise ship for 2025

    Brunei Darussalam continued to boost cruise tourism with the arrival of Norwegian Sky bringing 1,918 passengers and 837 crew members on Monday.

    The first cruise ship of the year made its maiden visit to the Sultanate sailing from Saigon, Vietnam and departing for Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia for the next port of call.

    According to the Tourism Development Department, the passengers were welcomed with a hadrah performance.

    Visitors explored landmarks such as Istana Nurul Iman, Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Kampong Ayer immersing themselves in the Sultanate’s cultural heritage.

    The visitors also enjoyed local delicacies and shopped for authentic Bruneian souvenirs at the Cruise Ship Centre.

    Susan from Honolulu praised Brunei’s cleanliness and warm hospitality while Cindy Hau from the Philippines enjoyed landmarks such as Istana Nurul Iman, Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum, and expressed a desire to return.

    Mike from California found Brunei welcoming and recommended it as a tourist destination after exploring local attractions.

    Since 2023, including the arrival of Monday’s cruise ship, the Sultanate hosted 19 cruise ships, solidifying its reputation as a rising cruise destination.

    Norwegian Sky marks the first of at least 11 anticipated cruise ship arrivals this year.

    The next arrival, MV Zhao Shang Yu Dun, is scheduled for January 28. – James Kon
